Category 03 · UV clarifiers
A UV clarifier is a chamber through which pond water is pumped past a UV-C lamp. Single-celled suspended algae receive a germicidal UV dose on each pass and aggregate into larger clumps that a mechanical filter can then remove. UV clarifiers target green-water turbidity; they do not affect filamentous string algae on pond surfaces. Sizing is typically expressed in watts per gallon of pond volume.
About this category
Category note
UV clarifiers address green water (suspended algae) rather than string algae. Manufacturer wattage ratings assume a specific flow rate; running too fast or too slow reduces UV dose per pass.
